Distinctions


Clarification #1:

MERCRONÂ’s specially-designed regulation feature should not be confused with voltage, amp, or current regulation. Other power supplies might claim to be regulators; but they adjust the lampÂ’s current only.


MERCRON is truly unique. In addition to regulating the lamp itself, we regulate the light…a real difference with serious ramifications for the Machine Vision / Color Imaging industry. If your system depends upon every pixel, there is no substitute for MERCRON’s maintenance-free, “Set-it-and forget it”, programmable Light Regulation.


Clarification #2:

     Even though MERCRON Light Controllers dim the light, they are not dimmers. They do, however, vary the light - upon demand - with instantaneous optical feedback, responding within .5 milliseconds to light-level excursions (within 30 milliseconds with the Tungsten series). In doing so, the controllers dependably hold the desired light-level steady as sunshine, within ¼ % of the selected value.


This extra-wide variability ability enables the immediate compensation for any light source disturbance, such as light ripple (and flicker), so-called: light-level drift, phosphor and diode decay, and other causes of intermittent light: temperature fluctuations, power line surges and sags, dirty optics, etc. For more detail, see Problems Solved and Cost-saving Benefits


Also, MERCRON offers remote control capability which accepts an analog input to set the intensity on a real-time basis. This feature enables the operator, or some external equipment to customize the light-level for variations in the targetÂ’s color or reflectivity.


And finally, there’s the All’s Well monitoring circuit alerts the user that the desired light-level can no longer be reliably held. This is invaluable since it signals impending lamp exhaustion, unfavorable temperatures, i.e., those events that produce “brown outs” and false rejects.


There are also certain secondary features that complement Light Regulation:

__1) the soft-start circuitry in the Tungsten Lamp Series;

__2) the “anti-aging mechanism” in the Fluorescent / NEW LED controllers,

__3) and the on-board power factor corrector in the NEW “Y”-series for all models.
